HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The bids are in to replace the Lorraine Road Bridge, and according to Harrison County Supervisor Connie Rockco, the lowest bid is around $7.5 million. That's $2.5 million less than county leaders estimated it would cost.
As WLOX News has reported in the past, the concrete and wooden bridge is beginning to show its age. Last year, it was closed for four months because of safety concerns. A few minor repairs allowed for it to reopen.
Earlier this year, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Harrison County agreed to pay $300,000 a piece, while the rest of the cost to replace the bridge would come from other agencies.
Rockco said she expects the Board of Supervisors to decide if it will accept the contractor's bid at the next meeting on January 5th.
