BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Holiday shopping is more of a marathon than a sprint and with Christmas next week, retailers are expecting shopping to kick into high gear as last minute customers come rushing for gifts.
At Edgewater Mall in Biloxi, retailers and shoppers are preparing for a busy weekend. This weekend is Super Saturday.
My Oh My manager Carolyn Middleton has been busy helping customers find that one of a kind gift. She says her store prepared for one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
"We are fully stocked on everything. We got shipments in today and just got them on our shelves just a little bit ago," said Middleton.
Marisol Gonzalez owner of Marisol's makes sure none of her shelves and clothing racks are empty. She knows the urgency shoppers have the weekend before Christmas.
"Just come in as soon as you can. Supplies of course they go pretty fast. So come out and you'll definitely be able to get exactly what you need. If they wait too long it's gone they're going to have to wait until next year all over again," said Gonzalez.
Some shoppers agree waiting until the eleventh hour can leave you with little options.
"It's really tough because you don't know what you want. If you go a little ahead of time you can find things that you really want. So give a little thought into it. Wait till the last minute and it's whoa everybody is in here on the last minute," said shopper George Stone.
"Oh my goodness everything is all picked over by then. You want to get out there and get it right while it's a full stock of everything," said Middleton.
On the contrary some believe with little time comes quicker decision making.
"You got to get it. This is it you can't just wait any longer. You got to get it so you panic trying to find the right gifts and hoping you get the right gifts for everybody," said shopper Angela Hudson.
"I like to last minute. Usually when I do it a little early, I feel like I have more time. But under pressure I do better," said Catina Williams.
Edgewater mall has extended hours this Saturday and Sunday to accommodate shoppers. The mall opens at 8 a.m. through 11 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday it opens at 10 a.m. until 9 p.m.
