Pass Christian surgeon sentenced for tax evasion

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Pass Christian orthopedic surgeon, found guilty on five counts of felony tax evasion, was sentenced to federal prison Thursday.

Timothy Dale Jackson, 50, was sentenced to 75 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden also imposed a $12,500 fine and ordered Jackson to make restitution to the government by paying the income taxes he owes, along with interest, in the amount of $806,982.90.

Back in September, Jackson was found guilty by a jury following a week-long trial in federal court. He was convicted of income tax evasion in Counts 1 through 4 and obstruction of the due administration of the internal revenue laws in Count 5 of the indictment.

The evidence at trial showed that Jackson was involved in a complex tax evasion scheme involving an entity in Utah, which claimed it was a tax exempt church. Prosecutors said since 2003, Jackson has neither filed tax returns, nor paid any income taxes.
