JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The new Jackson County jail in Pascagoula is catching up to its original construction schedule despite more than 50 days delayed by weather.

According to the Board of Supervisors, the structure currently has 104 cells installed, with 12 more planned to go in this week. Supervisor John Mckay says it is well over halfway finished.

The estimated completion date is late May or early June of next year.

If all goes well, Mckay said the new jail will provide the county with more beds at a cheaper price, and will be an all around safer facility.
