Will Sean Payton's serious talks with his players this week pay-off under the win column?

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) - The Saints are coming off a dismal performance inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, a 41-10 defeat at the hands of the lowly Carolina Panthers.  Nothing went right in that game and after losing four straight home games, head coach Sean Payton is trying to light a fire under his players and coaching staff.

He cut veteran wide receiver Joe Morgan.  Payton says everyone can take some blame in that embarrassing loss.

Payton said, "We're in the same bunker, players and coaches alike. You know, our job is to teach, to motivate and that's something that we've got to look closely at.  When you have a game like that happens, you're not going to be able to point to two villains. There's a lot of people with mud on their hands starting with me."

Veteran quarterback Drew Brees has been feeling the heat and he says despite the losing record, the Saints still have a shot at winning the NFC South division.

"It let's you know that you're always fighting for something, "stated Brees. "You're always fighting for your job. You're always fighting for a win and what it means for the team.  What it means for what you're trying to accomplish, post-season."

On Tuesday coach Payton said reports that safety Kenny Vaccaro has been benched is false.  He said the second-year player will be counted on in Monday's game with the Bears.

"I would say it's inaccurate, "stated Payton. 'He's going to play a ton for us in the role that he plays.  I'll leave it at that but I would say it's very inaccurate."

Vaccaro said, "I'm glad I talked to coach Payton. If he wouldn't say anything, that's a problem.  He wants thing better he told me, what he sees me at as far as a player. Says he sees me as a major role with this team."

Payton also commented on a report by sports writer Peter King that he  is considering stepping down down after the 2014 season comes to an end.

Payton said,"So, if it wasn't a report. Peter King offered his ten things he thinks.  It's silly.  Won't happen. No listen, I'm not going to bite your head off.  You've got to consider the source."

Sean Payton doesn't think kindly of King...who had negative words for Payton during the Bounty Gate when Payton was suspended for the 2012 season.

Despite playing on the road, the New Orleans Saints have been tabbed a 3-point favorite over the Bears.
