BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Casino industry insiders say they are pleased with the findings of new study on the impact of gaming in Mississippi.
The American Gaming Association released a study Thursday which found that gaming contributes $4 billion to the state economy. Included in that amount is $1.5 billion in employee salaries, as well as $944 million in tax revenues.
Beau Rivage executives said this is a positive sign for the future.
"The numbers show just how important the gaming industry is to Mississippi's economy," said Anthony Del Vescovo, Beau Rivage Vice President of Operations. "We continue to see the effects of gaming. For instance, across the street we have a baseball stadium going up that's going to employ more people in the state of Mississippi, bring more consumers to the state of Mississippi, increase tourism and things like that. So these numbers are very positive and show what the industry has done in being here over 12 years now."
Beau Rivage officials say the findings of this study will likely spark more interest in gaming related investments in Mississippi.
