Gulfport has only 3 returning players with varsity experience from the defending 6A State Basketball Championship team

Coach Owen Miller knows every season is different. His 2014-2015 Admirals have only three players back from the state championship team...Biscuit Floyd, Richaud Floyd, and Tyrell McArthur. However, whenever you win the golden ball, you will carry a bulls eye.

Miller said (3:13:03) We're obviously a different team this year. We've talked to our kids about that. We will have a bulls eye because of what we accomplished last year, but you try to get them out of that and focus on the day and let's leave the past behind us."

Biscuit Floyd is a playmaker and can dish the ball off to a number of Admiral players who can find the hoop, including Tyrell McArthur who is netting 9.9 points per game.

Ky Graves and Royce Davidson have the ability to battle inside the paint, Davidson is bagging 7.7 points and 5.7 rebounds an outing.

Miller says playing basketball along the Mississippi Gulf Coast prepares local teams for post-season play.

Miller said, "The three years that I've been here, my first season it was us and Biloxi in the Final Four. My second year it was us and Harrison Central and last year we were fortunate to win it. So if you can get out of the South, you've got a great chance to win a state championship. Playing Biloxi, Harrison Central and St. Martin and Pascagoula and all the great competition we have along the coast, really prepares you for the opportunity to play for a state championship".

Gulfport will entertain arch rival Biloxi Friday night at Bert Jenkins Gymnasium.
