D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

For kids, fishing will take on a new twist Saturday with the Kick'n Cancer and Fish'n for Toys speckled trout tournament hosted by Yellow Mouth Fever.

The event, which will hold registration from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. at the D'Iberville boat launch under the Interstate 110 Bridge, will have a boaters and a kayak division.

The entry fee for the boaters division is $100 per team and $50 in the kayak division, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to Kids Kick'n Cancer.

A brief captain's meeting is set for 6 a.m. Saturday with fishing starting at 6:30 a.m.

Weigh-ins will start at 2 p.m. for boaters and 3 p.m. for kayaks. The one day tournament winner in each division will be based on the heaviest aggregate weight of two speckled trout.

“We are hoping for 50 boats,” said tournament spokesman Phillip Ladner. “The anglers have to leave by boat or kayak from the D'Iberville launch, and they can fish anywhere they want to after that. We will give 10 percent of the proceeds to South Mississippi kids (supporting cancer). It's not mandatory that the anglers bring toys, but we are asking them to do so. We are telling everyone to come out and fish for a great cause and bring a toy, too. We will have the Marines on hand to pick up toys for the Toys for Tots campaign. We ask that anglers donate toys when they register.”
