GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Gulfport Kiwanis Club helps kick off the holiday season every year with the annual Kiwanis Pancake Day.
Wednesday was the day the club served up its famous pancakes and sausage at the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church in downtown Gulfport. This marks the 58th year for the club's major fundraiser.
For many residents, eating pancakes the first Wednesday in December is a long-standing tradition. The money raised helps support children's programs.
"We run the terrific kid program in the elementary schools," said Kathy Burns, with the Gulfport Kiwanis Club. "We have two wonderful key clubs at Gulfport High and Long Beach High. We help CASA. We help the Harrison County children's shelter. Anything to do with kids, we're there."
The Kiwanis Club served pancakes until 7 p.m.
