BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Scott Walker has started his 18-month sentence in federal prison for his role in the Department of Marine Resources corruption scandal. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' website, Walker is currently at the federal prison in Pensacola, Florida.
Earlier this year, Walker pleaded guilty to one count of fraud and one count of conspiracy. One charge is from a scheme Walker did with his father, former director of the DMR Dr. Bill Walker, to sell land the two owned to the Land Trust for the Mississippi Coastal Plains. The other charge is in connection to Scott working with former D'Iberville city manager Michael Janus to defraud the city out of $180,000.
"Mr. Walker reported to prison yesterday," said Walker's attorney, Corban Gunn. "He looks forward to paying part of his debt to society and, more importantly to him, getting home to his family and his two boys."
Walker was supposed to report to prison in September but a judge granted him a 120-day delay for medical related needs.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons' website, Walker's release date is set for March 21, 2016.
