PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Business owners large and small are breathing a sigh of relief Tuesday. That's because four major unions at Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula voted to ratify a new three year contract. And as business owners like to say, what's good for Ingalls is good for them.
At Jerry Lee's grocery store, Ingalls workers are coming in constantly and that will continue. Even small businesses like a dive shop in downtown Pascagoula will see an impact.
Those who sell big ticket items like automobiles are optimistic about the next three years. The reason why, all the Ingalls workers will receive a significant pay raise as well as a bonus check and that money could be spent on new cars.
Doug Walker is taking a look at the economic impact the new contract will have on Jackson County and indeed, the entire Gulf Coast. Watch for his story on wlox.com and WLOX News.
