Family Police Academy Kicks Off In Gulfport

The Gulfport Police Department wants to get the employees' family members more involved in what goes on at the police station. Tuesday night, the department hosted the first night of "Family Police Academy" at the Harrison County Courthouse.

About 25-family members came by to learn various things about the police department, like the insurance plan, budget, grants and the day-to-day operation. They also met one-on-one with Chief Wayne Payne.

The Family Police Academy will be held once a week, for the next five weeks. The last class will be held in April. It will include a graduation ceremony and dinner. Anyone interested in the program can contact the Community Relations Division at 868-5814 or 868-5957.
