Movie producer with Gulfport connections talks about debut of new film

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A new movie set to hit theaters on Thursday has ties to South Mississippi. The "Theory of Everything" follows the romance between a world-famous astrophysicist and his wife. The producer of the film will attend the movie's opening night in Gulfport. She will talk about her role in bringing the love story to life.

The feature film "The Theory of Everything" stars Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones. It focuses on the romance between Stephen Hawking, a man known as the Einstein of our time, and his wife Jane.

"They don't know that he's British. Most people don't know he has a family life. So this movie is about delving behind that public image and getting to see this incredibly amazing mountain that Stephen and Jane climbed together," said Lisa Bruce.

Bruce is the producer of the movie. It is based on a memoir written by Jane Hawking.

The movie follows the couple through their life challenges, from the time they fell in love in college to the moment Stephen was diagnosed with a debilitating disease and was given just two years to live. Through it all, Jane's love and support helped him defy the odds and break boundaries in science and medicine.

"He became this worldwide renowned famous scientist. I think it's such a moving, triumphant love story. It's incredibly inspirational to any of us, the idea of surviving that and having that kind of love story is perfect for the holiday time," said Bruce.

This week, Bruce is spending the Thanksgiving holiday with her fiance's family in Gulfport. When the movie opens on Wednesday, she will host a question and answer session with the audience at the Cinemark Theater in Gulfport. It will take place after the 7:05 p.m. screening of the movie.

"I'm really excited to see it with people here in Gulfport and I'm excited that it's coming out now," said Bruce. "It's really nice for me, because Gulfport has become my second home now."

Bruce said moviegoers will be touched by the Hawkings' story.

"When he saw the movie, Stephen, the lights came up and he was crying. That was probably the greatest moment for all of us being involved in the movie, because he was moved by it," said Bruce.

Bruce lives in Los Angeles, CA. Her other productions include the movie "No Strings Attached", starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, and the television movie Mary and Martha, starring Hilary Swank.
