The holiday season is here and for most, it is a very happy time of year. A time of shopping, receiving and giving. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most difficult times of the year for the American Red Cross to get people to donate blood.
Many of the regular donors are busy with other things. Donating just interferes with holiday plans. The problem with that is; the patients just can't wait until January when we are less busy and ready to donate blood.
As you consider whether you have time to donate blood this holiday season, consider how you would feel if it was you or a family member who needed blood during chemotherapy, or needed blood as a result of a car accident. Wouldn't you be happy to know the blood needed for a transfusion was there because people donated blood to the Red Cross.
That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
