PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - A Long Beach man is behind bars after allegedly stealing from a new condo development going up in Pass Christian.
Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said, 37-year-old Freddy Lester Hardin of Long Beach faces the felony charge of two counts of grand larceny for theft and attempted theft. Hardin is accused of visiting the construction site on two separate occasions and taking I-beams the first time and attempting to take them the second time.
Brisolara said developers made a theft complaint on November 14 that $2,000 worth of steel I-beams had been taken and they said the fence surrounding the development had been cut.
According to the sheriff's office, on November 21 the property manager saw a van at the development and noticed the fence was cut again at the same spot.
That's when the manager blocked the opening of the fence and called 911.When Harrison County deputies arrived they learned $3,000 worth of I-beams were loaded onto the van and the driver was not at the scene.
Hardin was found by Pass Christian police walking several blocks away from the construction site. An investigation revealed the I-beams taken on November 14 were sold to a local scrap yard.
Hardin was booked at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility under at $20,000 bond and was being held without bond since his bond was revoked for a 2013 possession of stolen property charge through Biloxi police.
