BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - At 6:00 tonight, the nickname and logo for Biloxi's Minor League baseball team will be revealed.
It has been almost six months since fans nominated their ideas, and team officials narrowed the list to six finalists. The choices: Beacon, Black Jacks, Mullets, Schooners, Shrimpers and Shuckers.
The people involved with the branding process have been very tight lipped about any hints, but the team's General Manager, Buck Rogers, had this to say about the identity.
“Between the art work that they came up with and the suggestions they made from the community, tying it all together in a story form with a name and a logo that so much represents the Gulf Coast color scheme that people identify with saying, 'That's pretty cool.' I think people are really going to be stoked. I know we're fired up. Looking at it for the first time, I was amazed when I saw the logo. I was floored. They did such a great job, and I know people are really, really going to love it. It really ties in to what the Coast is all about up and down. People will identify with it,” said Rogers.
The ceremony tonight is at Biloxi's Saenger Theater. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The speeches begin at 5:30. The team name will be revealed just after 6:00. That announcement will be carried live on WLOX News and
MGM Park in downtown Biloxi will be the home of the former Huntsville Stars. A ceremonial topping out was held late last week, meaning construction on the $36 million stadium has reached its highest point.
