D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

Those planning to do some Black Friday shopping at the Promenade in D'Iberville may be happy to know the new on-ramp to Interstate 10 west is officially open.

With Christmas just around the corner, shopping has really picked up at the Promenade. This year, traffic congestion should be a little better now that an I-10 on-ramp has reopened.

“I like it. I like it. I've used it a couple of times. I really like it. It's going to help a lot,” said Kathy Cruthirds.

Those who frequent the Promenade know that getting on I-10 to go toward Biloxi has been a headache since the Old Highway 67 overpass was shut down last year for reconstruction. The on-ramp opened just in time for the Black Friday rush.

“I think it will be a lot easier, especially for people who travel here and then to the other mall. It would be easier for them to get right on there and everything,” said one shopper.

Fighting the crowds when shopping on Black Friday can be tough as it is, but not having to fight traffic may bring even more people out to the stores.

“It's going to give another outlet if people leave out, instead of everything being bottle necked in one area,” said Cruthirds.

One shopper said, even with the new traffic outlet, she probably will forego getting into the Black Friday mix.

“I think if the traffic was calmer, then it probably wouldn't be so bad, and I would actually give it a shot shopping but I don't know. It's hard to guarantee,” said Marion Burlak.

While D'Iberville law enforcement and business owners are happy to see the on-ramp back open in time for one of the busiest shopping days of the year, some say it's a day meant to spend at home.

“It's going to help and people are going to save money, but again, I would rather spend it with family,” said a shopper.

Message boards and signs are in place to direct more drivers to the on-ramp, letting them know it is open.
