GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The man Gulfport Police say eluded officers for more than five hours Thursday night was arrested Friday morning and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.
Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said officers attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Levi Fashion Stapleton, 28, in the area of Railroad Street and Beach Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday.
Papania said Stapleton refused to stop and led police on a vehicle chase. After a short pursuit, officials say Stapleton bailed out of the car and ran away on foot.
After searching the vehicle Stapleton was driving, Papania said officers found an undisclosed amount of cocaine and obtained a warrant for Stapleton's arrest.
Police were unable to find Stapleton until they stopped the car he was riding in on 13th Street more than five hours later. Stapleton was arrested without incident around 12:20 a.m. Friday.
Stapleton was released from the Harrison County Jail on Friday after posting a $30,000 bond.
