BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Salvation Army bell ringers are now out at most locations across South Mississippi. It marks the beginning of the 2014 Angel Tree and Red Kettle Christmas campaigns to help raise money for the poor, homeless, and needy who are often overlooked year-round.
This year the Salvation Army in South Mississippi hopes to raise $310,000. Bell ringers are at Walgreens, Edgewater Mall, and seventeen other locations across the six coastal counties.
Last year, more than 3,000 children in South Mississippi had a Christmas because of the organization's Angel Tree program.
The opening day kickoff ends Friday night with the "Let's Glow" Festival at the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Division Street in Biloxi. The festival will feature games and events for the entire family. It lasts from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
