BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Students, faculty and administrators in Biloxi Public Schools have again earned the highest honor presented by the Mississippi School Boards Association. Biloxi is one of 19 school districts to earn the Beacon Award in the MSBA Lighthouse School Leader Awards.
The Beacon Award recognizes school districts that have an overall grade of "A," and no schools below "C," based on State Accountability Standards administered by the Mississippi Department of Education. About 350 school board members and superintendents across the state attended the MSBA Lighthouse School Leaders Awards luncheon in Jackson on Nov. 11.
In all, 59 Mississippi school districts were recognized by the Mississippi School Boards Association. The awards for outstanding student achievement were based on student performance last spring on testing requirements in the Mississippi Accountability Program.
The MSBA Lighthouse School Leader Awards Program was established by the Mississippi School Boards Association at the beginning of the 2003-04 school year, in recognition of the unsung efforts of school districts to meet more rigorous state and federal accountability standards.
