The recent sexual attack on a woman walking the Ocean Springs Bridge is a despicable act and a sad example of what can happen at any time. We are glad to see that police patrols have been stepped up so walkers and joggers can continue to enjoy the bridge with a wonderful view and feel safe.
This attack reminds us all that we must pay attention to our surroundings no matter where you walk. Authorities are recommending that people travel in pairs, especially after daylight hours, and consider carrying an alarm, such as a whistle or maybe even pepper spray.
Please be on the lookout for suspicious people and don't hesitate to call police. Maybe you can be the person who sees something, says something and helps make sure the attacker gets what's coming to him.
