GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The blast of winter weather that is gripping South Mississippi is good news for firewood dealers. When the temperature drops, their sales go up.
David Jones has been selling a wide variety of firewood at his Gulfport location for nearly 30 years. Located on Switzer Road near Pine Street Jones sells firewood by the wheelbarrow load.
"We've got hickory, we've got wild cherry, we've got live oak, which is really your best once it's seasoned out, it burns the hottest and longest and more BTU's," Jones said. He said he also sells pecan and water oak wood. The price of the wood ranges from $20 to $60 depending on what type of wood you want. He said hickory and wild cherry costs a bit more because those woods are harder to find.
