JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX)
The State Auditor's office has officially begun examining Singing River Health System's money problems following the pension problem controversy.
According to Communications Director Brett Kittredge, the state auditor's office is communicating with the administration about the system's review.
Singing River Health System administrators recently revealed the hospital had stopped contributing to its employees retirement fund since 2009. That fund is now running out of money. Jackson County Supervisors and administrators agreed a financial review was best.
Some residents and employees say they just want answers.
"Someone has to give an account an answer to these employees and regarding their pension," said Gayle Barnett, a Jackson County resident. "Because at the end of the day it is unfair for them not to know and they already contributed. And they have done their part and now they don't know what has happened. Someone has dropped the ball somewhere and someone has to answer."
