OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

Police are still searching for a suspect who they believed sexually assaulted a woman on the Biloxi Bay Bridge Friday night.

The heavily traveled bridge is a popular place to exercise. As you run or walk along the nearly two mile bridge, there is a beautiful view of Biloxi's Back Bay, but now the beauty of it has been compromised for some female walkers.

“I invited some friends to go walk on the bridge, and my husband informed me of the rape, and we have a man with us so we feel safer,” said one woman.

As news spread that a woman was sexually assaulted while walking across the bridge a few nights ago, some fear has spread too.

“I guess it definitely makes me feel unsafe when exercising out and running on the bridge and stuff, because I usually run the bridge,” said a jogger.

The attack is a stark reminder of the vulnerability that comes along with being alone at night. One woman says she always has the possibility of an attack in the back of her mind.

“I mean, it's just something that you always need to watch out for, especially being a female by yourself,” said a runner.

Despite the horrific incident, most women say it will not stop them completely from exercising on the bridge.

“As long as you're walking with somebody, I think it shouldn't matter, and if it's early in the daytime, I think it will be okay,” said a walker.

Ocean Springs Detective Capt. William Jackson tells us they still don't have a suspect in custody at this time, but a composite sketch of the suspect describes him as a tall, thin black man, between 30 and 32 years old who was last seen in jeans, a grey jacket and a ball cap that said "Miami."

If you know anything about this crime, you are asked to contact the Ocean Springs Police Department at 875-2211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
