Sheriff: Driver charged with DUI causing death in fatal Harrison Co. wreck

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The driver who was involved in a deadly accident in Harrison County early Friday morning has turned herself in to authorities. That is according to Harrison County Sheriff Melvin Brisolara.

Officials tell us Kaleigh Dartez, 19, turned herself in to sheriff's deputies around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. According to the Harrison County Jail Docket, Dartez is charged with DUI causing death.

According to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove, 21-year-old Zackary Whitfield was killed after the vehicle he was riding in lost control in a curve on Kiln Delisle Road and flipped. Brisolara said Dartez was driving that vehicle.

Hargrove said deputies responded to the wreck around 4 a.m. Friday after they received a call of an injured woman, later identified as Dartez, walking on the road. After talking with Dartez, deputies found Whitfield unresponsive outside of the vehicle.

We have learned Dartez was released from the Harrison County Jail after posting a $50,000 bond.
