Friday Night Football Showdown: Week 13 Recap

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - There was a big rival game in Picayune sending the home standing Maroon Tide hosting the Blue Devils from Pearl River Central.

Defending 5A State Champion Picayune notched a 38-26 victory to advance into the second round of the Class 5A Playoffs.  The Maroon Tide of head coach Dodd Lee will host Wayne County next Friday.  The Eagles beat Gautier 56-20.

Pascagoula had the home field advantage in another Class 5A playoff game.  The Panthers defeated West Jones 24-17 and will travel to Laurel next week.  The Golden Tornadoes eliminated East Central 71-41.

Class 6A playoffs...Ocean Springs not only excelled defensively, the Greyhounds exploded offensively and came up with the Friday Night Football Showdown Play of the Night...quarterback Drew Windham handed the ball off to Marcus Buckley...he threw a pass to a wide-open Austin Williams.  The play covered 70 yards for an Ocean Springs touchdown.  Greyhounds beat Petal 34-17 and will entertain Oak Grove next Friday.  The defending Class 6A State Champion Warriors defeated Hancock 42-28.

D'Iberville's defense stood tall Friday night as linebacker Barry Leonardi and his teammates put the clamps on Meridian quarterback J-Mar Smith.  The Warriors under veteran head coach Buddy Singleton got just enough offense to beat the Wildcats 14-13.  D'Iberville travels to Brandon next week. Brandon eliminated Hattiesburg 41-34.

Class 4A Playoffs...St. Stanislaus advanced with a 55-34 victory over Northeast Jones as sophomore quarterback Myles Brennan, the nation's leading passer, enjoyed another big night.  The Rockachaws will host Forrest County AHS next Friday.

Poplarville got another win in the Class 4A Playoffs taking out Quitman 39-14.  The Hornets travel to Purvis next week.

Purvis defeated Vancleave 48-24.  Bulldogs leading rusher Walter Williams left the game after the first play from scrimmage with a high ankle sprain.

Class 1A Playoffs...Resurrection flew past Sebastopol 38 to 8.  Eagles quarterback Larry Sisson hooked up with Darius Kennedy for a number of big passes including this 60-yard touchdown. Resurrection travels to Nanih Waiya next Friday.
