Cold weather shelters open again later today

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Feed My Sheep doesn't normally open for breakfast, But early this morning, the Gulfport soup kitchen served hot meals for nearly 200 people. The facility offers breakfast whenever the temperature drops to the 30s. Some were transported over from the Salvation Army cold weather shelter, while others came because they just wanted a hot meal.

That cold weather shelter has closed for the morning.  So have the others around South Mississippi that set up cots so people had a warm place to stay Thursday night.  They all reopen late Friday afternoon to help people deal with another blast of freezing temperatures. And they could use some help from volunteers who might have time to lend a hand.

In Hancock County, Old Spanish Trail Baptist Church will be open its doors at 4:30 p.m. The church is one mile West of the Waveland Walmart.

In Harrison County, a shelter will be available at the D'Iberville Multi-purpose center behind city hall.  It opens at 4:00.

The Salvation Army shelters will also open today. The Salvation Army shelter on 22nd Street in Gulfport will open at 4:00 p.m. and the Salvation Army on Nathan Hale Avenue in Pascagoula 4:30 p.m.

Coast Transit Authority will provide transportation to all of these shelters for those of you who need it.
