BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Two co-workers are charged with felony embezzlement after their story to police about an armed robber fell apart.

Just after noon on Thursday, Gabrealle Elaine Cox, 19, of Biloxi and Jarmel Anthony Harness, 20, of Gulfport called Biloxi Police and said they had been robbed. Both work at a retail business on CT Switzer Sr. Drive. Cox and Harness told investigators they were in the parking lot when a masked man approached them, pulled out a handgun, and took a bank bag filled with cash from their place of employment.

But when police started asking questions, they found several inconsistencies in their stories. According to investigators, the pair eventually confessed that the robbery was staged and they, along with an unnamed accomplice, took the money.

Harness and Cox were arrested and charged with Felony Embezzlement. If convicted, each could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Harrison County Justice Court Judge Bruce Strong set a $10,000 surety bond for both defendants.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Ray Akins with the Biloxi Police Department.
