SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - This Christmas, you can help local senior citizens who might be overlooked during the holidays with the Be a Santa to a Senior program. The 10-year-old program provides Christmas for low income or lonely seniors.
You can pick the name of a senior from an ornament at one of several Walgreens locations. The ornament also has gift ideas for that person.
Purchased items can be brought back to Walgreens to be wrapped and later delivered to the senior for Christmas.
"I think it's neat, because it adds to your Christmas," said Mary Sukiennik, with Home Instead Senior Care. "Christmas is about giving and sharing and enjoying people. When you know you've done something to help somebody who would ordinarily not have that, it gives you peace and joy."
All gifts must be brought to Walgreens by Dec. 9.
