JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Firefighters and police officers in Jackson County are getting ready to face off in The Singing River Federal Red vs. Blue competition.

Today, several police officers spent the morning flipping tires, climbing ropes and lifting weights to prepare for the competition. Organizers say it's a fun rivalry that will feature extreme obstacles.

"It just inspires our folks," said Doug Adams, an officer with the Pascagoula Police Department. "Hopefully teenagers and young folks can realize that we just don't ride around in cars. They just don't sit at the fire station and put on weight. There is a lot more to this job than just riding around in cars and sitting at the fire station."

The event will take place on Nov. 15, in Pascagoula's War Memorial Stadium. The gates will open at 5 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. A $3 donation is requested, and children 12 and under are free.

All proceeds benefit the firefighters and law enforcement benevolent funds.
