Historic Christmas ornament means support to a South Mississippi charity

You can get a a jump start on your Christmas decorating while helping a coast charity. The Duchess Club of Ocean Springs has released its latest Christmas ornament. It's a part of their historic Ocean Springs Christmas Ornament collection. Club members are featuring the Ocean Springs landmark Crooked Feather which is an outdoor wooden sculpture by Pete Toth dedicated to the people of Mississippi in 1976.

Ornaments will be available for sale at the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce-Main Street -Tourism Bureau, Miners Doll and Toy Store, and from Duchess Club members. The 2014 ornaments are $15 each and previous ornaments that are not retired are $20 each. Proceeds from the sale will go towards funding projects to help the children and families of Ocean Springs

The Duchess Club of Ocean Springs was formed in 1949. It is a nonprofit charity organization which assists children and families in need. The Duchess Club works closely with school officials and counselors to identify and serve underprivileged students through project like the Doll and Toy drive, college scholarships, and summer camp scholarships.

In addition, the Duchess Club works with other local organizations on community service projects such as the Special Olympics and the Ocean Springs Museum of History.
