JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Jackson County supervisors said inmate healthcare at the jail is improving after years of problems.

Supervisors said the Health Assurance LLC was created around nine months ago in hopes of upgrading services and saving money on medication given to the inmates.

On Monday the company gave a progress report. Officials say since last year hospital stays have decreased to zero in the month of October. ER visits also decreased from 21 to 13 last month.

More than $15,000 was saved in medication costs from this year to last year. Supervisor Melton Harris led the push for change and said the new deal is paying off for taxpayers.
