GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) students showed their support for veterans Monday with a patriotic walk around the Jackson County Campus in Gautier.

Retired Brigadier General David Blackledge helped lead the tribute. Blackledge is currently a faculty member at the college. The walk around campus was preceded by a brief ceremony featuring a group from Keesler Air Force Base.

Organizers say they wanted to help raise awareness on campus about the importance of thanking our veterans.

"We are a military friendly school," said MGCCC Jackson County Vice President Dr. Carmen Walters, "So we set aside today as our day to honor veterans--those who are students. Those who are faculty members, and then those in the community."

More than 100 students, faculty, and community members participated in the veterans walk.
