GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Since Hurricane Katrina, it has been rare to see a business move from north to south, but sometime before the holiday season gets into full swing, Coast residents can expect to see a popular Stone County business do just that.

The Pecan House, on Highway 49 in McHenry, will soon open a Gulfport store on Cowan-Lorraine Road in the new retail development just south of the Brentwood subdivision.

Owner Phyllis Shoemake said the store originally was supposed to open in October, and more construction delays postponed a second opening date scheduled for Monday.

Shoemake said construction is now going more quickly. The store will be 1,700 to 1,800 square feet, which is about the same as the main store.

The McHenry store is open seven days a week, but she says the Gulfport store will likely be open only six days.

Gulfport will have all the same pecan and candy offerings, but will be a retail store only.

Processing and preparation will be done in McHenry only.
