BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Students at a Biloxi elementary school showed off their patriotic pride Friday. Gorenflo Elementary put on a show for military members from Keesler Air Force Base. The Veterans Day Salute was also a celebration of the renewal of a partnership between the base and the school.
Officials say servicemen and women mentor the students and come by to read with them and encourage them to do their best.
The military members say they're glad to see patriotism being instilled so young.
"It's something that you love to see when you see a small child go up to someone and thank them for our service, because even our service members go up to veterans and thank them for their service. So, it's just something that's being passed so people are more appreciative and thankful," said Nathan Bizzle, from Keesler Air Force Base.
"We want to make them aware that someone made a sacrifice for all that freedom. By letting them be aware there are actually men and women fighting for their freedom, I think it gives them an awareness that they need," said teacher Ginger Anderson.
Students at Gorenflo also recognized the members of the school staff who are veterans.
