The Poplarville Hornets, the Region 8-4A Champs... used the running of Anthony Martin and Malik Lucas to advance to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Hornets defeated Richland 48-13 and will host Quitman next Friday night.
Region 8-4A runner up, St. Stanislaus rolled past Mendenhall 42-20. Quarterback Myles Brennan and Chase Rhodes had a big night for the Rockachaws. St. Stanislaus travels to Northeast Jones next Friday.
Vancleave held off Florence 53-50 and will entertain Purvis next Friday in the second round of the playoffs...while Moss Point was eliminated from the Class 4A title chase, losing to Magee 28-25.
Ocean Springs captured the Region 4-6A title thanks to a 28-14 victory over Hattiesburg. The 10 and 1 Greyhounds will entertain Petal next Friday in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs. Hattiesburg is the number 4 seed in Region 4-6A and has a road game at Brandon.
D'Iberville dominated arch rival St. Martin 31-0 to secure the number 2 seed in the region standings behind Ocean Springs. Warriors quarterback Andrew Bird directed D'Iberville to a convincing win with a second half surge after leading 10-0 at the half. The Warriors host Meridian in the playoffs next Friday.
Hancock got the number 3 seed following a 35-14 victory over Harrison Central. That's four straight wins for Hancock. The Hawks travel to Oak Grove next week.
Gulfport dominated arch rival Biloxi 49-7...but the Admirals failed to crack the playoffs due to the different tie breaker rules.
Three straight defeats prior to Friday's win over the Indians proved costly for Gulfport.
Pascagoula secured the number 2 seed in the Region 4-5A ranks thanks to a 38-6 win over Gautier. Pascagoula will entertain West Jones next Friday in the playoffs. The Panthers posted a 6-1 region record, tied with Picayune. The Maroon Tide defeated Stone 21-0 Friday and won the head-to-head competition with Pascagoula to lock-up the region title. Picayune faces arch rival Pearl River Central in the playoffs next Friday. PRC claimed the number 4 seed in the Region 3-5A ranks taking down Brookhaven 42-12.
Gautier is the number 3 seed and will travel to Wayne County in the playoffs next Friday. East Central beat George County 35-29 to secure the number 4 seed. The Hornets are on the road at Laurel to begin post-season play.
In other playoff games next week: Resurrection will open the Class 1A playoffs at the Gautier High School football stadium next Friday following a 49-24 win over Dexter....and Christian Collegiate Academy had its M-A-I-S season come to end losing to Tallulah, Louisiana 56-39.
