Week 12 of the Friday Night Football Showdown set for tonight

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The quest to be the best continues tonight with four local teams, Poplarville, St. Stanislaus, Moss Point and Vancleave kicking off the Class 4A playoffs.

Region 4-5A Champion Poplarville battles Richland on the home turf.  The 8 and 2 Hornets will try bouncing back under the win column following a 36-7 loss to Vancleave last Friday. Running back Malik Lucas leads the Poplarville offensive attack with 1,237 yards rushing. Jesse Pernell has added 890 yards rushing.

st. Stanislaus secured the other home field advantage after securing the runner-up slot in Region 8-4A. The 9 and 1 Rockachaws entertain Mendenhall.  Coach Bill Conides relies on a quick striking offensive attack led by sophomore quarterback Myles Brennan, the second-leading passer in the nation.  He's thrown for 3,823 yards and 40 touchdowns. Chase Rhodes has hauled-in 65 passes for 936 yards, Corbin Blanchard has 53 receptions for 779 yards and Owen Betz has 49 catches for 948 yards.

The Poplarville-St. Stanislaus playoff games will be two of the six games featured on the Friday Night Football Showdown tonight at 10;15 on WLOX-TV.

Moss Point earned the number 3 seed in the Region 84Aa ranks and travels to Magee.  Running backs Keshun Wells and Cal'terrius Anderson have combined for 1,399 yards rushing.

Vancleave opens the first-round of the Class 4A playoffs at Florence.  The Bulldogs under head coach Jim Bloomfield will count on senior running back Walter Williams.  The University of Louisiana-Lafayette commitment has rushed for 1,340 yards on the season.

The Region 4-6A title has come down to the final regular season games.  Ocean Springs can claim the title by beating Hattiesburg at Greyhounds Stadium.  Ocean Springs has a rock solid defense and does just enough to out score the opposition.  The Greyhounds lead the Region standings with a 5-1 record.  Hattiesburg is tied with

D'Iberville at 4-2.

The D'Iberville Warriors have thehome fieldd advantage hostingarch rivall St. Martin.  The Warriors have already secured a playoff slot while the Yellow Jackets (3-3) need a win to have a shot at locking down the number 4 seed with help from other teams.

In another rivalry at Milner Stadium, Gulfport takes on Biloxi.  Thehome standingg Admirals (3-3) need a win over Biloxi to secure a playoff berth.  The Indians are winless in the Region 4-6A standings and a victory over the Admirals would eliminate Gulfport from the playoffs.

Hancock and Harrison Central both have a long shot at the fourth and final playoff slot.  The Hawks (3-3) and the Red Rebels (2-4) need plenty of help to get there and the first assignment...win.  Harrison Central travels to theKilnl to take on the red-hot Hawks who have won 3 straight games.  Senior quarterback Chase Fagan leads the Hancock offense with 1,104 yards rushing and 2,365 yards passing.

The Friday Night Football Showdown will feature the Pascagoula at Gautier clash.  The Panthers and Gators are tied with Picayune atop the Region 4-5A standings at 5-1.  The Maroon Tide hold the tiebreaker over Pascagoula and Gautier since Picayune beat both teams during the season.  The Maroon Tide can claim the region title by defeating Stone in Perkinston tonight.  The Tomcats (3-3) are fighting to secure the number 4 seed.

The Pascagoula-Gautier winner locks-up ahome fieldd advantage in the playoffs next week. George County (2-4) travels to East Central (3-3) in another crucial game that could determine the number four seed in Region 4-5A.
