Stores Packed With Last Minute Shoppers

Patricia Craft of Ocean Springs is racing against the clock as she searches for a golf cart.

"I'm shopping for my husband, and my 2 children, Kyle and Katie, and my mom. I'm trying to get it all done before 1:00 this afternoon".

There's so much shopping to do and so little time left for this busy mom.

"I try starting about June, but it never works out that way. I always end up shopping last minute".

While some shoppers simply waited until the final day before Christmas, others like Wanda and David Dykes put off their shopping for a sentimental reason.

"He's home from Wisconsin.  He's been working up there since September. We hadn't had a chance to Christmas shop together, so I saved a few things so we can do it together".

Shoppers aren't the only ones rushing to get the gifts ready. Santa's elves are scurrying about, assembling bikes, grills and exercise equipment.

"Today's about the slowest it's been. We've got the most room and I think everybody's shopped out," John Fregly said.

After a final stop at Academy Sports, Troy Taylor finally wrapped up all his shopping.

"We have to get it all done, so we can get back home and enjoy the holidays. I'm shopping for my wife, so we're trying to get back before she finds us gone".

The shoppers can't wait to dash home to share their Christmas surprise.

Craft said, "It's a stressful situation, but it feels good when you're shopping for somebody else. It makes you feel good to give. That's what the season is all about".

Most stores and malls closed their doors at 6:00 P.M. Christmas Eve.
