WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) - The City of Waveland is working to replace the signature mosaic that once stood in front of City Hall on Coleman Avenue.
The original piece was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, and now artist Elizabeth Veglia is leading a community effort to create a new tile mosaic.
Twenty-six community workshops have been held in the past five weeks for the planning and design of the mosaic. More than 300 Waveland residents, including school children, will have a hand in putting the tile pieces together.
Veglia hopes the project will be completed by the end of the month.
A grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission is funding the project.
