SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Mississippi Power officials tell us they have been receiving multiple reports of a phone scam affecting customers in their service area.
Company spokesman Bill Snyder said scam artists are calling customers posing as billing agents.
He says the scammers are telling customers they must pay a bill immediately over the phone or with a prepaid card or their power will be cut off. He says the callers also ask for personal information.
Snyder says Mississippi Power will never ask for payment or personal information over the phone.
If you do get one of these fraudulent calls, company officials say you should report the incident to the police and call Mississippi Power at 1-800-532-1502.
