JACKSON, MS (WLOX) -

Have you ever watched a TED talk online? The videos feature some of the world's leading thinkers and doers sharing what they are most passionate about. Thursday, TEDx Jackson will take over the Capri Theatre in Jackson, Mississippi to feature some of the Magnolia State's brightest minds.

"TED" stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.

Organizers say the theme for the event in Jackson is "Fertile Ground." It represents the great promise and untapped potential that exists throughout Mississippi.

Editorial cartoonist Marshall Ramsey will emcee the event, and speakers include doctors, scientists, musicians, chefs, and even Kermit the Frog, who will talk about "The creative act of listening to a talking frog."

And all the talks will be livestreamed at https://new.livestream.com/tedx/TEDxJackson so citizens across the state can participate.
