Republican Palazzo re-elected in 4th Congressional District

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Republican Steven Palazzo of Biloxi is headed back to Washington, DC. The 44-year-old was re-elected Tuesday night to represent Mississippi's 4th Congressional District for another two years.

Palazzo bested five candidates: Democrat Matt Moore, independent Cindy Burleson, the Reform Party's Eli Jackson, independent Ed Reich and Libertarian Joey Robinson.

Palazzo won the seat in 2010 when he unseated longtime incumbent Democrat Gene Taylor. The two faced off again earlier this year in the Republican primary.

"It has been my highest honor serving as South Mississippi's elected representative in Washington and I am grateful for the support I have received across the district," Palazzo said Tuesday night. "Today America also voted. Although not all election results are final, it is clear that the American people have rebuked President Obama's policies that have weakened America and hurt South Mississippians. As your Congressman, I will continue to do as I promised four years ago: put Mississippians and our values first, hold this Administration accountable, and support policies that will strengthen our national security and grow our economy."

The 4th Congressional District covers the Gulf Coast and portions of the Pine Belt through Hattiesburg and Jones County.
