BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi State Bulldogs remain No. 1 in the latest College Football Playoff ranking for the second consecutive week in the poll released by the 12-member selection committee.
The Bulldogs have won 11 straight games dating back to last season, 8-0 during the 2014 football campaign, 5 and 0 in the SEC.
The top three teams remained the same with Florida State number two, Auburn number three and Oregon jumped into the number four slot, after Auburn beat Ole Miss 35-31 Saturday in Oxford.
The Rebels (7-2, 4-2 SEC) dropped from number four to number 11.
Alabama is the number 5 teams giving the SEC West three of the top five teams in the poll. TCU was sixth.
LSU jumped three spots to number 16 and the Tigers (7-2, 3-2 SEC) have a big game with Alabama in Baton Rouge Saturday night. The SEC West has a number of games that will either enhance or destroy the SEC's chances of cracking the final four playoff teams who will play in the national semifinals.
Mississippi State battles UT Martin in homecoming festivities 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Starkville. After that game the Bulldogs square off with Alabama in Tuscaloosa on November 15, at Vanderbilt on November 22 and close out regular season play at Ole Miss in the annual Egg Bowl. The road to the final four won't be easy but the Bulldogs will earn that number one ranking if they can continue their winning ways.
Besides facing Mississippi State and LSU, Alabama facing another hurdle in Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl.
