Police: Man arrested after sibling dispute takes a wrong turn

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport Police arrested Alphonse G. Campbell on Tuesday and charged him with aggravated assault after police say a dispute between siblings took a turn for the worst.

Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said officers responded to Sawgrass Apartments around 10:15 p.m. Saturday in reference to an assault. Officials tell us officers at the scene found the female victim with several cuts all over her body.

Papania said the victim told officers Campbell is her older brother, and they had been arguing. She said Campbell became belligerent and pulled a knife on her.

Papania said Campbell slashed his sister's face and torso and stabbed her in the neck.

When the victim left the apartment to seek help, authorities say Campbell ran. The victim was transported to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gulfport Police arrested Campbell after he was observed in a local fast food restaurant. The 42-year-old Gulfport man is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond.
