GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The Gulfport Police Department arrested Valerie Marie Halton, of Gulfport, on Monday on charges of uttering forgery.
Officials say the arrest was the result of an investigation into a complaint filed on Sept. 18, by the management of Gulf Coast Community Federal Credit Union located on Highway 49.
Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said Halton deposited a fake check into her personal account in an amount that exceeded $68,000. When management determined the check was fake, they contacted Gulfport Police.
Based on information discovered during the investigation, a warrant was issued for Halton's arrest on the charge of uttering forgery.
Halton turned herself in at the Gulfport Police Department, where the warrant was later served.
She was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility to be held on a $15,000 bond set by Harrison County Court Judge Brandon Ladner.
