JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Jackson County Emergency Services Director Earl Etheridge tells us the wildfire in the Helena community that kept emergency crews busy Friday night and most of the day Saturday has been contained.
Firefighters had the fire mostly extinguished Friday night, but the blaze rekindled around noon Saturday.
About 50 residents in the area of Dawnview Road, Dawnridge Road, Meadowbrook Street east to Saracennia Road were forced to evacuate their homes as the fire drew closer.
Etheridge said everyone who had been evacuated has been allowed to return home.
Officials tell us a small portion of the fire is still burning near the reservoir at the Daniel Electric Generating Plant.
Etheridge said no homes or structures have been harmed by the fire.
