Officials: Jackson Co. forest fire mostly contained, evacuated residents can return home

MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Jackson County Emergency Services Director Earl Etheridge tells us the forest fire crews have been fighting since 2 p.m. Friday has been mostly contained. Residents who were evacuated from their homes are allowed to return.

Etheridge said about one dozen homes in the Helena community had to be evacuated when the fire started threatening houses. He said the section of the fire that was threatening the homes has been contained, but there is another portion that continues to spread.

The fire was in the area of Dawnridge Road, north of Wildwood Road. A portion of Wildwood Road had to be closed while crews worked to contain the blaze.
