The 6-year-old boy who has been battling a devastating disease in Jackson County has died.

Jaxon Schoenberger was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma earlier this year. The cancer tends to affect children between the ages of five and 10.

According to the Home Runs for Team Jaxon Facebook page, the little boy died Friday shortly before 8 a.m.

Jaxon was described by his family and friends as a kid who loved sports, especially baseball.

"His best sport was baseball. He was in Tee- Ball. He made all-stars. He loved to travel, and he loved to make new friends," Jaxon's grandfather told WLOX News in a previous interview.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with medical bills and other expenses:

There was a walk planned to pray for Jaxon's recovery Saturday morning in Pascagoula.
