PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - A six-year-old who police say was kidnapped from a Pascagoula restaurant Wednesday night has been found safe in Butler County, Alabama. And the child's father is behind bars, awaiting extradition.

Around 6pm Wednesday, Pascagoula Police received a call that a child had been kidnapped from Raising Canes Restaurant. The child's grandmother said when she turned her back, the six-year-old's father, who does not have custody, took his child and headed toward Alabama.

The wanted man was identified as Maurice Rentz Johnson, 33, from Clinton, Maryland. Authorities caught up with him about two and a half hours later on Interstate 65. Johnson was arrested at exit 114 in Butler County, Alabama.

Investigators said the child was safe, and the grandmother was headed to Alabama with investigators to reunite.

Johnson will remain in Alabama until extradition can be arranged.
