815th Airlift Squadron participates in Operation Southern Strike

CAMP SHELBY, MS (WLOX) -

The public got a rare and impressive look into Operation Southern Strike on Wednesday. The 815th Airlift Squadron “Flying Jennies” provided airdrop support during an exercise that took simulated supplies and 25 paratroopers from Keesler Air Force Base to Camp Shelby National Guard Training Center.

The 815th partnered with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment for the exercise.

The purpose of Operation Southern Strike is to test the participating active Army and Air Force units, as well as Army and Air National Guard and Reserve units' ability to provide realistic combat training in a joint and multi-national environment.

This joint training exercise will provide units with practice in close air support, en-route casualty care, combat search and rescue, special operations forces and suppression/destruction of enemy air defenses.

The 815th will also provide aeromedical evacuation training Oct. 30.

Mike Lacy got to fly along with the “Flying Jennies” on Wednesday. Look for his full story Thursday morning on Good Morning Mississippi.
